Doing more with less

Climate change, population growth and increased urbanisation are some of the major problems affecting society today.  The world is changing and companies need to adapt. Using raw materials more efficiently is essential and biomaterials offer a solution.

As inhabitants of planet earth, we are already using over one-and-a-half times the globe’s resources, and we need to do more with less. The pulp and paper industry needs to rethink its business model.  This is why our company has created a new business platform, based on biomass, which does not compete with food production.

The traditional pulp-making process uses around 50% of the tree. The rest, such as lignin and hemicellulose, is usually burned for energy.  New technologies are enabling us to extract hemicellulose, sugars and lignin more efficiently, and getting more out of biomass.  This represents one of the foundations of our strategy.
